Product Description:
Our Ibb Regional Yemen coffee is a high-grade specialty coffee blend that is bursting with flavoursome notes of grapes, praline and dates. It is a coffee named after and pays homage to a small village in the Ibb region in Yemen.
The Story:
We get this coffee from the heart of Yemen. Nestled into this country is Ibb, which is home to one of the most diverse landscapes there is. Featuring high altitudes, and sub-tropical climates, this space offers the perfect environment for strong coffee beans to grow. Not only does Ibb have breathtaking scenery, and is surrounded by blue seas, but it also has extremely fertile soil allowing the coffee producers that live here to create some of the best and most delicious coffees that the world has to offer. Here, the variety of coffee cherries known locally as ‘Udani’ is grown, and farmers of the area produce this as a cash crop which complements their sustenance farming. ‘Udani’ is harvested in October, right through until January as the temperature tends to fluctuate between 30 to 11-degree celsius. During the harvest season, the producers will handpick only the reddest and ripest cherries. Then, the cherries are placed in baths of cool water, clean and quality-checked. The best of the bunch is dried on raised beds for around two to three weeks, where they are turned daily to ensure that they all dry evenly. Once the moisture levels have reached between 11-12%, they are then all taken and sealed in airtight bags. This protects all of them from oxidisation or contamination from any foreign matter. Before we even get our hands on these delicious coffee beans, they are rested for between 1 and 2 months before being pulled from the cherry. Then, the beans are passed through a gravity sorter, sieved by screen size,e then hand sorted-sorted. Once completed, the coffees are graded and bagged, then exported to our store. So, next time you’re sipping on a cup of coffee, take a second to think about the journey the beans have taken to make it all the way to your mug.
