A Guide to The Ultimate Barista Course At Our Training Campus in South East London
Making that perfect cup of coffee is every barista's dream. With good quality, coffee comes a lot of responsibility. You want your customers to fully be able to taste every note and enjoy your blend as much as you do. In this article, we will be looking at all the London-based coffee courses we offer, and what you can expect if you decide to enrol in one.
How Do You Become A Trained Barista?
We offer many courses, including our Barista Skills sessions, which come in at foundation, intermediate and professional level. If you are new to the world of coffee-making and want to learn how to hone your skills, then we recommend starting with our beginning foundation course to get started.
On day one, you will be covering all aspects of espresso and making those all-important espresso-based beverages - you might even get to try some too! Here at 39 Steps Coffee, we are all about passing on our coffee-making knowledge, and ensuring that you feel confident making the perfect espresso. You will learn the espresso recipe and grinder calibration. As well as some of the most common milk techniques, such as basic milk pours and latte art patterns.
Some of the key topics you can expect to cover will be:
- Coffee theory
- Equipment
- Health and safety in the workplace
- Espresso techniques
- Milk techniques
- Basic latte art
- Coffee menu
- Cleaning and maintenance
- Customer service
You can work your way through the levels of this course until you feel comfortable and confident in your coffee-making abilities.
What Are Sensory Skills In Coffee?
If you are a coffee-making expert, then you may already have heard of sensory skills. When we drink coffee, we don’t necessarily taste it. We don’t typically pick on all the notes, and different textures that come with our drink. Our Sensory Skills course teaches our baristas the ability to differentiate one taste from another. Our aim is for you to be able to describe the sensory information, and fully understand the role every element plays in a perfect cup of coffee.
Again, we run these courses at beginner level, intermediate and professional, so no matter your skill set, there is a class that will work for you. Together, we will explore the essentials of sensory evaluation, in both a practical and interactive manner.
Everything You Need To Know About Coffee Roasting
Another course we offer is coffee roasting, available for all skill levels. The foundation one will give the learner a full understanding of the roasting process our coffee goes through. We will detail the physical changes, and how to control all of the sensory aspects of the coffee by roasting light to dark.
The roasting course will give you all the fundamentals that are needed about coffee beans, as well as help you to understand how a coffee roasting machine works, as well as general maintenance of the machinery. Here at 39 Steps Coffee, we believe that the best baristas are the ones that fully understand the process of coffee-making, as well as how to make the best hot beverage.
